Aural Rehabilitation Classes in Lancaster PA

At Resonance Audiology, we provide a variety of aural rehabilitation classes that help patients cope with their hearing loss and learn different strategies to help them hear in different listening environments, even if they do not have hearing aids.

Our programs include:

  • Hearing aid orientation – This usually occurs at the appointment when a patient is fit with hearing aids or soon after he/she is fit with their hearing aids. Orientation allows patients to learn about their hearing aid(s). They focus on the “how to’s” of your hearing aid(s) – how to put them in and take them out, how to turn them off and on, how to adjust the volume and programs, how to clean them and how to take out the battery and put the battery in. Orientation is also great for family members and caregivers, as they can also learn the “how to’s” of hearing aids. We also focus on what to expect from your hearing aids and preparing you for the changes you will notice with improved hearing in your environments.
  • Auditory Training – Through auditory training, we will help you learn about strategies to help you hear different sounds, how to focus on words that will help you understand better and where you should position yourself to optimize your ability to hear with your hearing aids. Many people without hearing aids will benefit from this as well.
  • Group Sessions – There is no better way to learn more about hearing loss and coping with it than from others who wear hearing aids and suffer from hearing loss themselves. At Resonance Audiology, we provide group courses that allow patients to communicate with each other and learn what they are doing to communicate as best as they can with hearing aids.

Steps included in an aural rehabilitation program for an adult:

  • Diagnostic testing and discussion of the impact hearing loss has on the patient’s life
  • Hearing aid consultation – Will you benefit from hearing aids?
  • Verification and Validation of hearing aids- are they doing what they are supposed to do?
  • Develop a treatment program that involves the patient and his or her family
  • Individual classes to discuss listening strategies to meet desired outcomes of patient and family members
  • Group Classes to learn from others who have hearing loss as well
  • Conclusion – Are you more comfortable with your hearing loss and utilizing strategies to help improve how well you understand?
